mrdanberberich asked: I read on your blog that you just decided to be a full time artist. I'm just curious, how exactly did you do that? I'm an artist and I've been trying to break out for a while, and I keep coming across people who just did it one day. It just boggles my mind because it seems almost impossible to me. O_o haha
Well, for me it started with creating work that people wanted to buy. Of course, I didn’t make the work with that intention at all, but that’s what the reaction was to it. I was encouraged to do more and started contacting galleries. I also made a great effort to meet the right kind of people who would be interested in buying my work. Once I had secured my first gallery show, which was about a year after deciding to do art full-time with a few side-jobs here and there, I worked incredibly hard to have all of the work ready in time for the opening. The show went over really well and all of the work sold. From there I just kept going.
What was most important for me was to never stop creating and looking for new avenues to show my work. Being reliable and personable was also key.
